    Mining the Unknown: Assigning Function to Noncoding SNPs

    The eyes, kidneys and cardiovascular system are among the tissues and organs affected by diabetes, a chronic metabolic disorder. The prevalence of diabetes in the world is 8.8 percent, with approximately 90 percent of cases being type 2 diabetes, according to the World Health Organization. In the early stages of diabetes, there are no significant clinical signs or symptoms. As a result, screening can be a useful tool for reducing diabetic complications. The Middle East's health care system has been burdened with exorbitant costs as a result of the alarming rise in diabetes prevalence over the past few decades.
