Ludmila has over 20 years experience in cell biology and more than 12 years experience in stem cell biology. She began work on human embryonic stem cells (hES) in the Centre for Stem Cell Biology at Sheffield University. The Centre was awarded one of the first two licences granted by the UK HFEA for derivation of hES cells. Ludmila was one of the first in the country to start working with the Wisconsin hES lines. She was instrumental in the derivation of seven new human embryonic stem cell lines.
Ludmila has been actively involved in training of national and international researchers within the Centre. She also coordinated, organised and taught at the annual practical training course for academics: ‘Working with Human Embryonic Stem Cells’. Ludmila has established a collaboration with UK Stem Cell Bank, ongoing since 2003. Inputs include being an advisor to their technical forum – an annual program and workshop on hES cells. In 2006 Ludmila joined UCL and the Department of Biochemical Engineering.
Ludmila Ruban is the author of a new book on the subject entitled: ‘Human pluripotent stem cells in culture’, recently published by Springer.
