Dr. Prabir Mandal is Associate Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Biology as well as Director of Title III (Mathematics & Sciences) at Edward Waters College. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from Bhopal University in India. His dissertation is titled "Cytogenetic investigations on human reproductive wastage and infertility." Dr. Mandal received his Master of Science in Zoology in 1983 from the University of North Bengal in India, with a specialization in Cytogenetics. He received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of North Bengal in India. Dr. Mandal also serves as the Area Coordinator of the Biology Program. Before joining Edward Waters College, Dr. Mandal served as an Associate Professor of Biology at Mountain State University in Beckley, West Virginia.
His teaching interests include Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Toxicology, Bioinformatics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Vertebrate Physiology, Human Genetics, Reproductive Endocrinology, Zoology, Microbiology, Animal Behavior, and Membrane Biology.
He has received numerous awards, grants and honors, including UNCFSP/NLM-HBCU ACCESS project Establishment of e-Center for Promoting Health & Wellness at Edward Waters College. This program will run for approximately one year and totals $20,000 in funding.
He has also partnered with the Eastside Environmental Council to work on a collaborative approach for planning how to evaluate and reduce exposures to certain toxic pollutants in east Jacksonville. He has been nominated for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar Award, 2009.
