Abstract :

Background & Aim: Clinical education is crucial for combination of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills. Viewpoints of nursing students are the key elements in evaluation of clinical education efficacy. The present study aimed to define nursing students opinions concerning efficiency and the characteristics of clinical conference and clinical round. Materials & Methods: The study population consisted of 4-6 nursing students. Data collection tool was a three-section researcher made questionnaire containing baseline, nursing round and clinical conference characteristics. Descriptive and inferential statistical tests (independent t-test, ANOVA, Spearman and Pearson correlation coefficients) were adopted to analyze the data. Results: Subjects were 134 term 4-6 BS nursing students. Compliance with the characteristics of clinical conference (45.5%, 53%) and clinical round (44%, 51.5%) were poor and moderate respectively from the viewpoints of the half of subjects. Paired t-test showed a significant difference between students viewpoints toward planning clinical conference and clinical nursing round (p=0.006, t=2.77). Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, clinical education faces a serious challenge with regard to clinical education methods. With respect to the necessity and importance of clinical education, more investigation should be conducted to detect its relevant factors and to plan for its improvement.
