Abstract :

Introduction: The rehabilitation of edentulous patients by means of immediate loading with osseointegrated implants has been proven to be a predictable treatment over time. However, the severely resorbed maxilla and mandible, where bone quantity and quality are greatly reduced, presents serious limitations for implant placement and loading. As a result, different techniques have been developed over the last two decades, with varying results allowing for total implant supported rehabilitation with high longterm predictability. The classification of the type of clinical situation from simple to complex demands a different strategy for each individual patient to achieve the optimum result. Treatment planning and decision making have to take into consideration factors such as patient selection, implant distribution, number of implants, implant type, rehabilitation design, soft tissue management and the use of different approaches such as serial loading and serial extraction protocol, angled implants, sinus augmentation, short implants, Pterygoid and zygomatic implants, and augmentation techniques for lip support. . This lecture will present and discuss potential advantages and disadvantages of each technique, simplifying the decision-making process trough the Carames Classificationï?¢, a patient-centered aid-decision tool, for a fixed and removable full arch implant rehabilitation of the maxilla and the mandible, enhancing the importance of planning in the aesthetic rehabilitation of the edentulous patient using immediate loading protocols.
