Abstract :

The structure, competitiveness, and performance of the ICT industry has potential to be greatly affected by Open Source Software (OSS) which has emerged as one of the most critical IT trends in the 21st century. OSS as emerged as aphenomenon that is, concomitantly, cultural, economic, societal, technological, legal, ethical, moral and political. As more and more organizations adopt OSS, this phenomenon has evolved from infrastructure software in horizontal domains to IS applications in vertical domains, and has now reached "mission-‐ critical" enterprise softwaresuch as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Electronic Health Records (EHR). This paper provides insights on the challenges facing hospitals that adopt an "open-‐ source" EHR system, through the experience of a large university hospital in North America.

Biography :

Placide Poba-Nzaou is an Assistant Professor of Information Technology and HR in the HR & Organization Department at the School of Business at Universite du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM). Dr. Poba-Nzaou?s research interests include the adoption and implémentation of enterprise systems in organisations, open source software, the deployment of IT in support to HR processes, and the impacts of IT in health care organisations. He has had several articles published in journals such as Journal of Information Technology, Information and Management, Information Systems Frontiers, Information Systems Management, International Journal of Operations & Production Management,International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, Implementation Science, Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare and Business Process Management Journal. Moreover, he has an extensive experience as Information Technology and Organizational Development consultant.
