Abstract :

There have been amazing advances in breeding research in the dromedary camel over the past thirty years. Embryo transfer, frozen transfer, twining, pre-sexed embryo transfers, I.V.F and even cloning have all been developed in the camel in a relatively short space of time. A strong racing industry coupled with sophisticated laboratory resources have in part allowed this to happen. Changes in industry structure have seen a number of commercial E.T. centers open up to allow wider access to advanced breeding technology in camels. This paper looks at results obtained over the last few years at our center and some of the management techniques that are necessary to make the process a commercial success when dealing with E.T. transfer numbers of over a thousand in the space of five months.
