Abstract :

T he growing number of people with CKD has resulted in increased demand for nephrology services. The tyranny of distance coupled with workload pressure require organisations to work collaboratively to support health professionals caring for people with kidney disease through the development of accessible, high quality education packages. We aim to ameliorate the tyranny of distance and work ?smarter? to pool resources and provide evidence based education through e-learning. Teams of nephrology nurses and educators develop a learning package. Communication is facilitated via teleconference, web-conference and email. This requires a collegiate vision of goals and acceptance of the importance of collaborative spirit. The target audience for each learning package is established and the content tailored accordingly. Each member takes responsibility for developing part of the content, and shares it with the team for review. References are sourced to augment the package. When this process is complete, the more intensive work on building the e-learning course begins, requiring the team to work collectively to bring the e-learning course to completion. E-learning courses launched so far include CKD-MBD, Introduction to Buttonhole Cannulation, Introduction to Haemodialysis, Introduction to Peritoneal Dialysis, and the monthly Journal Club. Further courses are now in development including Acute Kidney Injury. We are also hosting other organizations nephrology courses through our ONE portal-Online Nephrology Education. We continue to be committed to developing interactive high fidelity courses with point of care applications
