Abstract :

Sanjeewani Senevirathne is a dedicated professional with over 13 years of experience in substance use disorder (SUD) prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Serving as a Community Corrections Officer and Evidence-Based Practices Development Officer under Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Justice, she specializes in behavioural change and rehabilitation for minor offenders. Sanjeewani has provided clinical and counselling services to over 1,500 clients, utilizing evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Her academic achievements include a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship from Virginia Commonwealth University, training at King’s College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling Psychology from the University of Colombo. She also holds a criminology degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. An accomplished researcher, lecturer, and public speaker, Sanjeewani has presented internationally and published extensively on addiction and community corrections. As a Justice of Peace and freelance journalist, she promotes mental health awareness, earning recognition through prestigious fellowships and scholarships.
