Chronic kidney disease in Diabetes Mellitus: An overview

Abstract :

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has become an important public health problem all over the globe. As per the International Diabetes Federation Atlas (IDFA) for 2015, about 69 million people in India and over 415 million people across the globe are suffering from diabetes. The diabetic patients are predisposed to higher rates of kidney stone formation which is a risk factor. DM is a metabolic disease that causes renal failure in diabetic patient. DM is the common cause of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The accumulation of uremic toxins and increased parathyroid hormone levels in patients with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) cause insulin resistance in tissues, particularly skeletal muscle tissues. The control of diabetes and early treatment for the risk factors of diabetes are very important in preventing nephropathy.

Biography :

Prof. D. Bharathi has been working as Head, Dept. of Biosciences and Sericulture, Sri Padmavati Women’s University, Tirupati, India. Acted as Dean, School of Sciences, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati for a period of 3 years. Completed 4 projects and published 126 papers in National and International journals. Presented 95 papers in National and International conferences and seminars. Selected for Chinese Government Scholarship for Post-Doctoral Research in Sericulture for a period of one year through Ministry of HRD, New Delhi, India. Nominated as Honorary Foreign member of Sericulture Society of Zhejiang University, P.R. China in 2000. Got Best Teacher Award from Andhra Pradesh State Government for the Year 2008. Received 2 National Awards and One International Award - Lifetime Achievement Award in Science (Zoology) – 2018 from Venus International Foundation, Chennai during 3rd Annual Women’s Meet.
