An arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus is a type of mycorrhiza in which the fungus gets penetrates into the cortical cells of the roots in a vascular plant. Vescicular Arbuscular mycorrhizas were characterized by the formation of different unique structures such as arbuscules and vesicles by fungi of the Glomeromycota phyla. The term "mycorrhiza" conveys or portrays the symbiotic association of plant roots and fungi. Frank was the first person who recognized the relationship between the ectotrophic mycorrhizae and endotrophic mycorrhizae. The arbuscular mycorrhizas or vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizas is the most proper name to use, as some fungi don't produce vesicles,. Arbuscules are not dependably present in roots and its role in nutrient exchange has not been affirmed.
