Tissuechip development will benefit increasingly from applications developed for other industries. For example, flame hydrolysis deposition (FHD) of glasses has many applications in the telecommunications industry, and is now also being applied toward the development of new tissuechips. A recent report describes how FHD was used to deposit silica with different refractive indices, resulting in microstructures that can be readily incorporated onto a chip and that integrate both optical and fluidic circuitry on the same device.Biochips refer to the complete fundamental functional unit, capable of performing multi biochemical tasks simultaneously. Tissue chips on the other hand are similar miniaturized units that can replace a tissue or some part of it, enabling the organ to work normally. Both biochips & tissue chips have been elemental in tissue engineering technology and have proven to be of utmost importance in the same arena. DNA microarray also called as biochip in simple terms consists of a two dimensional grid system where upon sensors or solid flat substrates are incorporated. These solid substrates can be either positively charged just like silicon or glass or can also be consisting of integrated circuitry units that perform best in signal transduction studies. Biochip peer reviewed scientific journals are dedicated to publishing research and review papers in the general areas of biomimetics, biomaterials, and Biochip. As such, it is a multidisciplinary journal intersecting the areas of biology, biochemistry, and materials science and engineering. While the editors will consider all manuscript submissions in these general areas, the focus of this journal is to explore the field of biomimetics and how it can be the key to scientific progress in the related areas of biomaterials and Biochip. The primary aim as enshrined in the definition of Biochip is to restore, maintain and/or improve tissue or organ function and this may be affected by the use of cells in combination with material substrates and also may be coupled with appropriate growth and guidance factors.
