Interconnected networks, channels combine in a supply chain to deliver products and services required by end customers. Supply chain management can also be described as the procedures of design, planning, execution, control and monitoring of supply chain activities.
The goal of supply chain management is generating net value, building a competitive network, and synchronizing supply with demand. Marketing channels plays an important role in supply-chain management. SCM has the same goals as supply chain engineering, but unlike supply chain engineering it is focused on a more traditional management and business based approach.
