Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease, usually starting young age. AS is the prototype of the axial shape spondyloarthropathies. Inflammation and new bone formation in the sacroiliac joints and the spine is the hallmark of AS. Treatment SA options have been expanded since the introduction of effective anti-TNF-a agents treatment in disease fighting activity, control the symptoms of the spine and sacroiliac joints. Clinicians need to be aware the benefits and risks of the treatments available, and need to have evidence-based information on the most effective strategies of daily life practice. In recent years we have witnessed remarkable progress in understanding of natural history and pathophysiology AS and also in the management of the disease.
