Farmers need to take safety measures to assure that poultry litter and poultry manure are not fed to any livestock species, and that poultry feed is not fed to ruminants. This is important both for guaranteeing the safety of our food. Most of the litter formed by the poultry industry is currently applied to agricultural land as a source of nutrients and soil modification. Environmental pollution, resulting from nutrient and pollutant filtering can appear when poultry litter is applied under soil and climatic conditions that do not favor agricultural utilization. Feathers are used in a number of decorative products such as masks, feather fans, boas, costume accessories, earrings, bird ornaments, and flowers. Feathers are also routinely used in the production of fishing flies.
