In recent years, there has been a spate of articles related to behavioral addictions; some of them focus on addiction to online pornography. However, despite all the efforts, we are still not able to profile when engaging in this behavior becomes pathological. Common problems include: sampling bias, finding diagnostic instruments, approximations to the question, and the fact that this entity may be encompassed in a larger pathology (i.e., sexual dependence) which can present with a very diverse symptomatology. Behavioral dependencies constitute a largely unexplored area of study and generally present a problematic consumption model: loss of control, alteration and risky use. Hypersexual disorder fits this model and can be composed of several sexual behaviors, such as problematic use of online pornography (POPU). The use of online pornography is increasing, with the potential for dependence given the influence of the "triple A" (accessibility, affordability, anonymity). This problematic use could have harmful effects on sexual development and sexual functioning, especially in young people. Our aim is to bring together existing knowledge on the problematic use of online pornography as a pathological entity. Here we try to summarize what we know about this entity and describe some areas worthy of further research.
