Plasmodium Falciparum And HIV-Infections

Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV / AIDS) is a continuum of conditions caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. A person may not show any symptoms after initial infection or may experience a brief duration of influenza-like disease. Typically, this is followed by an extended period without symptoms. If the infection progresses, it interferes more with the immune system, increasing the risk of developing common infections such as tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors that are otherwise rare in people with normal immune function. HIV is transmitted mainly through unprotected sex (including anal and oral sex), infected blood transfusions, hypodermic needles, and during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding from mother to infant. The virus is not spread by other body fluids, such as saliva, sweat, and tears. HIV is a member of the retrovirus community of viruses.
