Pediatric research deals with diseases of newborns, children and adolescents up to the age of 18 years. Pediatricians work in specialized areas of neonatology and primary health care for children. As the patients are so young, considerable expertise is required from professionals working in the field. Pediatrics includes several specialties such as neonatology, pediatric oncology, pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric primary health care. It is a relatively new discipline in medicine and the first traces of pediatrics are found in Shusrutha Samhita, an Ayurvedic text composed in the 6th century BC. Pediatric oncology is devoted to the difficult area of childhood cancer. The diagnosis and therapeutic management of pediatric tumors, reviews of recent advances and emerging concepts for the benefit of basic and clinical research, as well as standards of care in the field will be considered in this specialty.
