A fungus called Colletotrichum gloeosporiodes is responsible for causing a disease to the fruits of papaya called as papaya anthracnose. This disease most widespread as a devastating diseases mainly during storage and export. These infections are generally initiated at early stages of fruit development in the field but the disease causing microorganism remind come until the fruit reaches the final phase. This fungus is mostly spread by wind and rain. The favourable conditions for emergence of this disease are high temperature and humidity it shows a high impact on refrigerated papaya fruits which are kept for export. It affects the immature green fruits that are attached to the plant and once the fruit begins to write the symptoms of this disease can appear.
