Nursing informatics is a field of nursing that incorporates nursing, computer, and information sciences to maintain and develop medical data and systems to support the practice of nursing, and to improve patient care outcomes. Nursing informatics is a field dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care through efficient management of data and technical systems. Using data, an informatics nurse can analyse trends, monitor for any consistent errors, and implement new, more efficient systems. Informatics skills were categorized as: management, system requirements and selection, design and development, fiscal management, implementation, analysis and evaluation, and system maintenance. A Delphi approach was used for obtaining consensus on the competencies.
