Nursing Awareness

Nurses play an important role in the prevention and control of operating site or SSI infections, as they provide a high proportion of the treatment and care of surgical patients. The sterile technique plays a vital role in the control and prevention of SSI and contamination of surgical sites. the urses have an "excellent knowledge" of the concepts / principles of sterile technique and have applied it to a "very large extent". No correlation was found between the nurses' knowledge and the extent of sterile technique practice and their demographic variables such as age, sex, duration of clinical experience and the number of relevant training courses taken. . However, a significant relationship was found between knowledge and the extent of the practice of sterile technique. The results suggest a positive association between knowledge of the sterile technique and its application. Thus, nurses must continue to improve their knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and innovations in perioperative nursing
