Neonatal nursing is a sub-specialty of nursing that works with new born infants who have a variety of problems ranging from prematurity, birth defects, cardiac malformations, infection and surgical problems where they are cared up to 28 days after birth. A neonatal nurse performs various tasks including: creating and implementing the treatment care plan, monitor signs and respond accordingly, administer vaccine and other medications required, keep diligent record of infant signs and treatment, assist with diagnostic testing, provide advice and support to family.
