Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune, inflammatory neurological disease of the central nervous system (CNS) and is the commonest nonâ€traumatic disabling disease to affect young adults. The prevalence of MS is increasing worldwide, together with the socioeconomic impact of the disease. It also attacks the myelinated axons in the CNS, destroying the myelin and the axons to varying degrees.
