Mucormycosis (sometimes called zygomycosis) is an infection but it is a rare fungus infection caused by a group of molds called mucorales. These fungi live throughout the environment, mainly in soil and in decaying organic matter, such as rotten wood, leaves and compost piles. People get mucormycosis by coming in contact with fungal spores in environment. The form of mucormycosis it usually occur in people who have health problems or take medicines that lower the body’s ability to fight with germs and sickness. It can also develop on the skin after the fungus enters the skin through a cut, scrape, burn, or other type of skin trauma.
