Mitochondria are spherical, double-membrane-bound organelles that rely on the distinct functions of their two membranes: the outer mitochondrial membrane and the inner mitochondrial membrane. Mitochondrial DNA is the small circular chromosome which is appear inside mitochondria. The mitochondria are organelles found in cells that are the sites of energy consumption. The mitochondria, and thus mitochondrial DNA, are passed from mother to offspring, it also contains a large multi protein translocase complex that recognizes mitochondrial signal sequences on larger proteins and permits their passage.
