Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Scholarly Peer-review Journal

Non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is any form of epithelial lung cancer other than carcinoma of the small cell lungs (SCLC). NSCLC constitutes nearly 85 per cent of all lung cancers. As a breed, similar to small cell carcinoma, NSCLCs are fairly resistant to chemotherapy. Where appropriate, they are mainly treated with curative intent by surgical resection, although chemotherapy has increasingly been used both pre- and post-operatively (neoadjuvant chemotherapy). Squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma are the most common types of NSCLC but there are several other types that occur less often. Pleomorphic, carcinoid tumor, salivary gland carcinoma and unclassified carcinoma are only a few of the less common forms. Often the term "not otherwise stated," or NOS is commonly used, usually when it is difficult to make a more precise diagnosis. That is most frequently the case when a pathologist in a cytology or biopsy specimen is studying a small amount of malignant cells or tissue.
