Lupus Nephritis News

Lupus nephritis is kidney inflammation caused by the systemic erythematous lupus (SLE). With lupus the immune system of the body targets its own tissues of the body. Lupus nephritis occurs when the lupus has the kidneys involved. Lupus nephritis will develop up to 60 per cent of patients with lupus. We can't function normally when the kidneys are inflamed, and can leak protein. Lupus nephritis can cause kidney failure if not controlled. However, the signs aren't always drastic. The first notable symptom for many is swelling of the legs, ankles and feet. Lupus nephritis is not one of the urinary or kidney problems in people with lupus. Individuals with lupus can also be susceptible to infections in the urinary tract. These cause urinary burning, and require antibiotic treatment. Some medications for lupus can also affect the kidneys and cause swelling and other symptoms similar to those for lupus nephritis. Problems concerning these drugs usually go away when the drugs are no longer being used. Lupus nephritis has five distinct forms. Treatment is based on the type of lupus nephritis that is a biopsy determinant. Since symptoms and severity vary from person to person, treatments are tailored individually to suit a particular circuit of a person.
