LPL plays a pivotal role in lipids and lipoprotein metabolism. The main functions of LPL include the hydrolysis of TG-rich lipoproteins and the release of non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA), which are absorbed and used for metabolic energy in peripheral tissues such as muscles, or are re-esterified in the TG and stored in adipose tissue. The balance between these competing effects could determine whether the increase in LPL activity will lead to a decrease in weight gain or an increase in adiposity through increased rates of TG fat storage. An imbalance in LPL activity can alter the plasma TG partitions between muscle and adipose tissue, thereby influencing insulin resistance and obesity. The scholarly journals serve as forums for introduction and presentation for the review of new research and the critique of existing research. Content is usually in the form of articles presenting original research, review articles and book reviews. The term scholarly journal applies to scholarly publications in all fields; this article deals with aspects common to all academic field journals.
