Insulin Pump Technology For Diabetes

As people with diabetes know, it's extremely important to keep your blood sugar within a safe range. Good blood sugar control not only makes you feel good, but also helps prevent long-term complications of diabetes, such as blindness, kidney failure, and heart disease.

People with type 1 diabetes do not produce insulin, a hormone that helps the body use sugar (glucose), a key energy source from carbohydrates. If you have type 1 diabetes, you need to make up for the lack of insulin with insulin therapy.

Meanwhile, people with type 2 diabetes produce insulin, but their body does not use insulin properly or does not produce enough insulin. Diet, exercise, and medication can often help control glucose levels. However, in some cases these measures are not enough and insulin therapy is necessary to better control blood sugar.

Although insulin can be administered by self-injection, people who take multiple insulin injections daily may also consider using an insulin pump.
