An imaging biomarker is a biological characteristic, or biomarker that can be identified in an image. In medicine, an imaging biomarker is a characteristic of an image related to a diagnosis of a patient. A number of biomarkers, for example, are frequently used to determine the lung cancer risk. Firstly, a simple lung lesion detected by X-ray, CT, or MRI can lead to a neoplasm suspicion. The lesion itself serves as a biomarker but the minute details of the lesion also serve as biomarkers and can be used collectively to assess neoplasm risk. Some of the imaging biomarkers used in the assessment of the lung nodule includes thickness, calcification, spiculation, cavitation, growth rate, position in the lung, and metabolism rate.
