Greenhouse Gas

The greenhouse effect is the mechanism by which radiation from the atmosphere of a planet heats up the surface of the earth to a temperature above that which would be without the atmosphere. Radiatively active gases like greenhouse gases radiate radiation in all directions in a planet's atmosphere. Part of the radiation is directed at the air, warming it up. The intensity of the downward radiation-that is, the frequency of the greenhouse effect would depend on the temperature of the atmosphere and the amount of greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere. The natural greenhouse effect on Earth is vital to maintaining life, and was originally a precursor to life shifting from the ocean to land. Human activities, however, have intensified the greenhouse effect and triggered global warming primarily through the burning of fossil fuels and the clearing of forests. This cycle makes Earth much cooler without an atmosphere than it would be. One of the things that makes Earth a safe place to live, is the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a process that happens when gases trap the heat of the Sun in the Earth's atmosphere. This cycle makes Earth much cooler without an atmosphere than it would be. One of the things that makes Earth a safe place to live, is the greenhouse effect. The problem we are facing now is that human activities – particularly burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas), agriculture, and land clearing are growing greenhouse gas concentrations. This is the enhanced greenhouse effect this leads to Earth's warming.
