Glomerulonephritis

Glomerulonephritis is inflammation of the small kidney filters. Glomeruli absorb and transfer excess fat, electrolytes, and waste from your bloodstream into your urine. Glomerulonephritis can slowly or unexpectedly occur. Glomerulonephritis, such as lupus or diabetes, occurs on its own or as part of another condition. Severe or prolonged glomerulonephritis related inflammation can damage your kidneys. Treatment depends on what type of glomerulonephritis you experience. Glomerulonephritis signs and symptoms depend on whether you have the acute or chronic form, and the cause. Signs and symptoms of glomerulonephritis shall include: Pink or colored urine from red blood cells in your urine (hematuria), foamy urine from excess protein (proteinuria), high blood pressure ( hypertension), fluid retention (edema) with visible swelling in your neck, hands , feet and abdomen. Glomerulonephritis may develop from a strep throat infection or, occasionally, from a skin infection (impetigo) a week or two after recovery. Your body develops extra antibodies to fight the infection, which can eventually lodge in the glomeruli, causing inflammation. Chronic glomerulonephritis happens frequently in families. Glomerulonephritis is also associated with other cancers, such as multiple myeloma, lung cancer, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, in addition to the causes mentioned above. Glomerulonephritis can damage your kidneys so they lose their ability to filter.
