Biosystems engineers also design technologies and production processes capable of identifying and eliminating human pathogens from food. You can look for ways to produce eco-friendly packaging or safer food storage techniques.
Aquaculture production of finfish has experienced rapid growth in production volume and economic performance in recent decades and is now a key supplier of seafood. As the scale of production increases, the the likelihood that the industry will face new biological, economic and social challenges that can influence the ability to maintain ethically healthy, productive and environmentally friendly fish production. It is therefore important that the industry aspires to monitor and control the effects of these challenges to also avoid increasing potential problems as production increases. There is a concept of precision fish farming (PFF) whose purpose is to apply control engineering principles to fish production, thereby improving the farmer's ability to monitor, control and document biological processes in fish farms. By adapting several basic principles of precision farming (PLF) and taking into account the boundary conditions and possibilities that are specific to agricultural operations in an aquatic environment, the PFF will contribute to passing commercial aquaculture from experience traditional to a knowledge-based approach. production regime. This can only be achieved through increased use of emerging technologies and automated systems. We also looked at existing technology solutions that could represent important components in future PFF applications. To illustrate the potential of such applications, we have defined four case studies aimed at solving specific challenges related to biomass monitoring, control of food distribution, pest monitoring and management of overcrowding operations.
