Cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes, is the leading cause of death in the United States and a major driver of health care spending [1,2]. Aspirin's usefulness in preventing cardiovascular disease is well recognized. Since the early 2000s, the US Preventive Services Task Force. USA And the American Heart Association (AHA) have recommended aspirin for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease [3–8]. Despite these long-standing guidelines, aspirin use remains low. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted a survey on the preventive use of low-dose aspirin in 2011-2012 [9]. With these data, we estimate that less than half of the men and women eligible for daily aspirin actually use the drug.
