Articles On Echocardiography

Echocardiography is defined as a branch that deals with the study of the heart anatomy. It is non-invasive. It also provides access to structure and heart function. On the echocardiogram, the doctor can observe the movements of the heart while it is beating and see many structures.

An echocardiogram, often called an echo or simply echo, is an ultrasound of the heart. (It is not abbreviated to ECG because it is an abbreviation for an EKG.) Echocardiography uses standard two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart. Echocardiography has become widely used in the diagnosis, management and monitoring of patients with any suspected or known heart disease. It is one of the most widely used diagnostic tests in cardiology. It can provide a multitude of useful information, including the size and shape of the heart (quantification of the size of the internal chamber), the pumping capacity, as well as the location and extent of any tissue damage. An echocardiogram can also give doctors other estimates of heart function, such as a calculation of cardiac output, ejection fraction, and diastolic function (how much the heart relaxes).
