Amniocentesis

Amniocentesis is a procedure in which amniotic fluid is removed from the uterus for testing or treatment and also useful tool for the identification of the underlying mechanisms leading to preterm parturition. Amniotic fluid is the fluid that envelop and protects a baby during pregnancy. This fluid contains fetal cells and various proteins. It is an medical method used primarily in prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal infections as well as for sex determination. In this procedure, a small amount of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal tissues, is sampled from the amniotic sac surrounding a developing fetus, In the absence of intra-amniotic infection or inflammation vascular disease or increased thrombin generation can be identified by measuring the amniotic fluid concentration of thrombin ant-thrombin III complexes.
