Allergies, also called allergic disorders, are a variety of symptoms that are caused by the immune system's hypersensitivity to normally harmless chemicals in the environment. These conditions include hay fever, allergies to food, atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma and anaphylaxis. Symptoms may include red eyes, itchy rash, sneezing, runny nose, breathing shortness, or swelling. Alimentary intolerances and Food Poisoning etc. Popular allergens include pollen and certain foodstuffs. Metals and other substances can cause problems too. Food, insect stings, and medicines are common causes of severe reactions. Their development is due to both genetic and environmental factors. The underlying mechanism includes immunoglobulin E antibodies (IgE), part of the body's immune system.
