Biography

Sonali Kurup joined Roosevelt University as Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in 2011. Prior to this, I completed my doctoral studies (2002-2009) in medicinal chemistry at Duquesne University, under the supervision of Professor Aleem Gangjee and postdoctoral training (2008- 2011) with Professor Matthew Soellner at the University of Michigan. My dissertation focused on the rational design and synthesis of novel anticancer agents targeting receptor tyrosine kinases, the folate pathway, microtubules and Hsp90. This involved the application of molecular modeling techniques in drug design and development of novel multi-step methodologies for the synthesis of target compounds. During my postdoctoral training, I was involved in developing a novel fragment-based methodology for the identification of substrate competitive kinase inhibitors targeting the non-receptor tyrosine kinases c-Src and c-Abl. Starting from peptidic inhibitors, small molecule inhibitors with submicromolar inhibition were identified.
