Biography

Prof. Monika Bugno Poniewierska has received his PhD in National Research Institute of Animal Production during the period of 3 years 2000 – 2003. Currently she is working as a professor Head of Independent Laboratory of Genomics in National Research Institute of Animal Production. She is a member of The Polish Society of Genetics and member of The Local Ethics Commission for Research on Animals. She has authored 57 research articles. The area of her expertise is cytogenetics.

Research Interest

Prof. Monika Bugno Poniewierska scientific interests concern animals cytogenetics, in particular the evaluation of the karyotype regularity of animals which are assigned for breeding. The research was focused on early detecting of karyotype anomalies, which enabled the elimination of their carriers from breeding and as a result avoiding economic losses related to ineffective mating or hormonal treatment, which is very often applied in such cases. Along with the development of molecular cytogenetics, my scientific interests had been directed to issues connected with elaboration and application of molecular techniques in the evaluation of domestic animals genomes, which enabled considerable increasing the precision of chromosomal abnormalities identification, not only in mitotic but also in meiotic cells, as well as it enabled broadening research on genes mapping or evolutionary issues. Currently, my interests are embracing the latest issues of chromonomics that is genomics where the organization of a genome in chromosomes is taken into account. These issues are helpful in creating genetic linkage groups, as well as in transferring results on other animals (comparative chromonomics).
