Dr. Cathie Garnis is an Assistant Professor and Director of Research for the Division of Otolaryngology (Department of Surgery) at the University of British Columbia. She completed her PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2005 and went on to a post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Philip Sharp at the MIT Center for Cancer Research; Her research has focused on the molecular basis of development and progression for head and neck cancers (with a particular emphasis on oral malignancy). Her work is focused on deriving new knowledge regarding tumor biology and the creation of molecular tools that can be effectively applied to guide clinical management of cancer patients. Dr. Garnis has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and her work has been cited more than 600 times. She has served on several national and international grant panels and is on the editorial board of Data set Papers in Oncology.
