Biography

Professor Berrin Tansel has received her PhD in environmental engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985. Currently, she is a professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida. Before joining FIU, Dr. Tansel was a project manager at Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. She has also worked at the Center for Environmental Management at Tufts University. She has authored over 200 research papers, reports, and professional practice publications. Dr. Tansel is an elected Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and elected Diplomate of American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. She is a member of Water Environment Federation, and Environmental and Water Resources Institute of ASCE.

Research Interest

Dr. Tansel’s research expertise is in the area of environmental sustainability, physical and chemical treatment processes, infrastructure system reliability, contaminant transport, fate and transport modeling of contaminants in soil and water environment.
