Dr. Tara Carney, PtarahD, is employed as a senior scientist at the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit at the South African Medical Research Council. Dr. Carney holds a PhD in psychiatry and an MA in psychological research from the University of Cape Town. Dr. Carney provides research support for substance abuse projects in the prevention area, specifically the Centre of Disease Control’s project on drug use and HIV in southern Africa. She also serves as project manager on additional projects in her unit. Her research interests include harm reduction and injection drug use, as well as intervention work specifically aimed at adolescents who engage in substance use and delinquent behaviour.
