Dr. Yamaoka joined the School of Medicine of Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) in 1999 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology. Since 2007, he has been a Professor in the Department of Molecular Virology at TMDU's Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences. Before coming to TMDU, he worked as a surgeon for 5 years, became an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University (1994-1999), and studied at the Unite de Biologie Moleculaire de l'Expression Genique, Institut Pasteur Paris, France (1996-1999).
