Biography

Sheelagh Wickham qualified as a general nurse and midwife. After qualifying she worked in Intensive Care and Accident and Emergency Department. She moved from A&E to set up one of the first Diabetes Day Centres in Ireland where she worked for a number of years before moving to research in diabetes care. In the mid-nineties she developed the first accredited course in Specialist Nursing, (Diabetes) in Ireland in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. During this time she achieved an honours master from TrinityCollege and registered as nurse tutor. She completed the fellowship in the Faculty in Nursing in RCSI in 2000 and her Doctorate in the Science of Nursing from the University of Wales, Swansea. She continues to teach in the School of Nursing in Dublin City University where she is Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning.

Research Interest

Sheelagh Wickham research interests are chronic illness, particularly diabetes, preventive medicine and education.
