Dr Hoffman has recently completed her adult infectious diseases training at UCLA and has joined the faculty to pursue research and clinical infectious diseases practice. Her current research focus is in the area of optimizing care for HIV-infected women. She has developed a collaboration with the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit (RHRU) in Johannesburg, South Africa, that evaluates outcomes of combination antiretroviral therapy in pregnant women with advanced immunosuppression. She is also involved with HIV program development in resource-poor settings and is currently serving as the UCLA-based program co-director of a PEPFAR/USAID (U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Agency for International Development)-funded project entitled Extending Quality Improvement for HIV/AIDS in Malawi, in collaboration with Partners in Hope Medical Center. Dr. Hoffman has an interest in supporting and improving medical education in international settings, and has established a program in Malawi to offer clinical experiences for UCLA internal medicine residents.
