Biography

Mr Rajab Kerwat is a Consultant General Surgeon with special interest in Upper Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgery at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He qualified from Alfateh University Medical School, Tripoli, Libya in 1988.

Following a completion of a comprehensive surgical training over twelve years in London, Cardiff and Tokyo.He was appointed as consultant surgeon in 2001 at Queen Mary's Hospital.

Since qualifying, Mr Kerwat has been working hard to provide his patients with highest quality care, clinically effective, safe and with a positive experience. This includes adopting a continuous development profile which involves regular update and development of his academic and technical skills.

Mr Kerwat is also an advanced laparoscopic surgeon performing many complex keyhole surgical procedures including, Laparoscopic abdominal hernias surgery, Laparoscopic foregut surgery, Laparoscopic midgut surgery as well as Gastro-Intestinal Endoscopy.

Mr Kerwat also has vast experience in the subject of laparoscopic cholecystectomy and has published several articles on the topic. He uniquely combines laparoscopic/keyhole and endoscopic ERCP skills in the management of complicated gall stones and bile duct stones and pancreatitis.

Mr Kerwat provides several advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures in his NHS and private practice hospitals including laparoscopic splenectomy, laparoscopic incisional hernia repair and most recently single incision laparoscopic abdominal surgery (SILS) for cholecystectomy, hernia repair, appendicectomy and right hemicolectomy.

Mr Kerwat is a recognised trainer in general and laparoscopic surgery for junior doctors in Foundation Training Programme and Specialty Higher Surgical Training Programme. He is also a trainer at The Royal College of Surgeons Laparoscopic training course programme.
