Dr Prabhakar has worked in international public health for more than three decades, primarily in prevention and control of infectious diseases. He joined Alliance India in 2011 and has led our work in Andhra Pradesh, most notably under the Avahan India AIDS Initiative supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Over the course of his career, he has worked in a variety of national and international settings, in academia, and for implementing organisations like FHI 360. For PAHO/WHO, he directed a team of researchers, laboratory experts and allied staff in the Caribbean. His areas of expertise include strategic planning, programme management, surveillance, and operational research on STIs in key populations in India. Dr Prabhakar has published more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He earned his MD from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad and his MPH from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, USA.
