Professor Henry E. Young received his PhD from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in the field of Anatomy and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Carbohydrate Biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University. Currently, he is working as a tenured Full Professor at Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) in Macon Georgia. He is both a teacher and a researcher. He has taught Human Embryology and Human Gross Anatomy for 26 years at MUSM. His primary research interests concern the utilization of adult stem cells in tissue replacement and repair. He discovered 7 inductive factors and 11 adult stem cells. He has 24 patents concerning these discoveries. He has/is a Scientific Founder and R&D Consultant to 16 biotechnology companies. He has received 96 awards: 2 special awards: Humanism in Medicine Award – 2005 (only PhD in history of MUSM to be honored with this award) and Inductee: Arnold P. Gold Foundation - Gold Humanism Honor Society, 2005; 3 research awards, including 2009 International Albert Einstein Scientific Iconic Achievement Award; 3 teaching awards, including MUSM Hooding Award – Class of 1993 and American Medical Women’s Medical Association Gender Equity Award – 1997; and 88 general awards, including Nomination for 2010 Man of the Year in Medicine and Healthcare. He has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including a seminal work on adult stem cells in Cell Biochemistry and Biophysics 40:1-80, 2004. He has 119 peer-reviewed poster presentations and presented 213 Invited Seminars. He is a member of various Stem Cell societies.
