Born in a small village near Pune (Walhe, Purandar), Prof.Dhavale took his primary education at his native place and college education in Pune. He has completed his post-graduate (M.Sc. Organic) and doctoral (Ph.D. in Chemistry) studies at the University of Pune. He was a post doctoral Fellow at the University of Bologna, Italy (1986-87).
His research contribution is well recognized in the area of synthetic chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Carbohydrates chemistry and natural products by the Indian Science community by honoring him as a ‘Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences India, Allahabad, 2011’, ‘Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (F. A. Sc.) Banglore, 2009’ and the ‘Maharashtra Academy of Sciences 2003’. He is a recipient of Principle V. K. Joag Award for best Teaching and Research, University of Pune (2008), Bronze Medal of “Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), Bangalore” for major research contribution in Organic Chemistry (2003), Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) International Author’s Award (2001), Prof. M. S. Wadia, Endowment Lecture Award, 2005, Visiting Professor at University of Bologna, Italy (1991-1993) and University of Regensburg, Germany (2005). He was selected as a one of delegation members (amongst twelve scientists from India) to visit Korea and Taiwan with the leadership of Prof. Govardhan Mehta, IISc, Bangalore.
