David A. Katzenstein

Biography

Virologist David Katzenstein began his career with an internship that would shape the course of his life. Arranged through the University of New Mexico, the internship was at a clinic for Indigenous people. The experience ignited what his stepdaughter Melissa Sanders-Self describes as “a fire within his soul” to work on infectious disease among underserved populations. One of those populations was to be the emerging community of HIV patients in the USA and another was in Africa.
